To believe or not to believe

The other day I went browsing through the shops at Bellingen, one shop in particular caught my eye. I didn’t go into the shop to buy anything, just to browse and loose myself for a little while.  As I passed the counter I noticed a tray of gemstones and started to read about their metaphysical properties, uses and meanings. I am not a crystal type of person, I like to think I am a free spirit, compassionate and accepting and non judgemental but in reality I am only half of what I wished I could be.
A yellow gem caught my eye and began reading its properties, it promised to help with wealth, abundance and success. If there is one thing I was continually searching for then wealth, abundance and success would all be fighting for top honors. Again I liked to think I was more in tune with this natural healing powers of crystal, more connected to nature than I actually am.  The lady running the shop informed me that they were enhanced citrine and that she had pure citrine gems behind the counter – would I like a look? – OK, I muttered. She produced a bag of small imperfect yellow stones and picked one out for me – this one is a good one, $2.50. How does it work? I asked skeptically. If I placed it in my wallet it would apparently make me think twice about spending. Now I was intrigued, having two small children and only one income we were always looking out for ways to save money, so I bought it - although spending money to save money was another of my daily contradictions. She placed the citrine into a decorated metallic bowl, what she informed me was a Tibetan singing bowl. She ran a small decorated wooded  stick – shaped like a pestle -  around the rim and it produced a high pitch ring, these strong vibrations of the bowl will drive out negative energy and cleanse the citrine, her friend had shown her how to do it. Now only I could touch the gem, so i picked it out of the bowl and put it in my purse – done. No more unnecessary spending. I am torn to whether I believe it or not, I want to believe it because otherwise it may not work.
